Famly Trees

In The Netherlands, family names were not required until 1811 when Emperor Napoleon had annexed the country. At the time not everyone had gone to school and literacy was an issue. This did not only apply to those registering their names, but also to those in the registration offices. Pronunciation of names could also confuse the issue and as a result differently spelled familynames were found within the same family.

This could explain some “misspellings” along the line in our family trees.

We look forward to receiving corrections and updates
